James Murphy

James Murphy created and performed at Despacio for MIF13. For more details, please visit the event page by following the link in the left hand panel.

James Murphy is a musician, producer, DJ and co-founder of the record label DFA Records. Murphy is most well known for his musical project, LCD Soundsystem, whose self titled first album was released in 2005 receiving critical acclaim.  

Murphy’s second LCD Soundsystem album, Sound of Silver, was released in 2007 and Pitchfork named, All My Friends, the fifth song off the album, the second best song of the decade.  Murphy moved into film scoring in 2009, writing the music for Noah Baumbach’s film Greenberg.

In 2010 LCD Soundsystem released their third and final album, This Is Happening. Murphy performed his last concert with the band at Madison Square Garden in New York. The final concert featured in the documentary film about Murphy and the band called Shut Up and Play The Hits.

Post-LCD Soundsytem, Murphy has worked with artists as diverse as Gorillaz, Andre3000, Arcade Fire and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs¸ and most recently with 2manydjs on their event Despacio.
