RocketNumberNine will be performing with Neneh Cherry on the 5, 6 and 7 July. For full details please visit the event page by following the link in the left hand panel.
One of music’s great maverick talents, singer-songwriter Neneh Cherry has spent her career out on a musical limb. From her beginnings with post-punk troublemakers Rip Rig & Panic via transatlantic chart success in the late 1980s and on to her recent work with free jazz noisemakers The Thing on last year’s album The Cherry Thing, she has surprised and thrilled audiences at every turn.
Cherry has recorded with artists as varied as Groove Armada, Youssou N’Dour and Gorillaz, with whom she performed at the first ever Manchester International Festival event in 2005, a pre-Festival commission which brought Demon Days Live to the Manchester Opera House.
Cherry’s latest project is a collaboration with London based brothers Benjamin(keyboards/ electronics) and Tom Page (drums/ percussion), better known as RocketNumberNine.
The trio will play their new album(which incidentally is produced by Kieran Hebden aka Four Tet) in its entirety for the first time in three concerts at MIF, marrying Cherry’s distinctive vocals and irrepressible stage presence to RocketNumberNine’s shapeshifting grooves and atmospherics.
