From modest beginnings, Jamal Edwards’ pioneering multimedia company SB.TV has quickly grown into one of the biggest success stories in British youth culture. In just a few years, it’s garnered more than 150 million YouTube views — and it’s getting bigger by the day. Now, for MIF13, Edwards is taking three shows to the stage, showcasing the best urban talents in the UK exclusively at MIF.
Smokey Barbers has already been a big hit on YouTube. Now the show moves from screen to stage, as Jazzie Zonzolo (TJ in Anuvahood), Humza Arshad (Diary of a Badman), and Afolabi Dasaolu (aka A Dot) welcome familiar faces to the salon for gossip, live music and frank discussion.
History of Grime: Rebels with a Cause undresses one of the most exciting musical cultures in Britain. Through his personal story, hard-hitting grime artist Justin Clarke (aka Ghetts) will take the audience inside the music that’s taken the country by storm.
Hosted by Kojo from Choice FM, Jokes from the Hood will bring the best in British urban comedy to Albert Square. Five up-and-coming comics will deliver a fast, edgy and hilarious show that’s guaranteed to raise the roof.
In addition to the live shows, don’t forget to check online during the Festival for more exclusive MIF broadcasts and video content from Edwards and SB.
