MIF13’s events for young people and families comes courtesy of charismatic Belgian theatre director Inne Goris, whose work crosses the boundaries of theatre, dance, performance and visual art. The programme’s arresting music is by Dominique Pauwels.
For Once Upon a Story, Inne will create within Manchester Town Hall a treasure trove of stories of and about childhood, where anything is possible and audiences find themselves at the heart of the action. There are four shows under Inne’s umbrella, each aimed at different age groups:
ZigZag ZigZag (ages 9+, world première)
A beautiful story about adventurous friendship, unfortunate circumstances and the pain of letting go. Inspired by David Grossman’s much-loved story The ZigZag Kid, Zigzag ZigZag will première in schools around the city during MIF, with special performances for families at weekends.
Once Upon a Time (ages 4+, UK première)
A sparkling, wordless performance using material from classic fairytales, taking the whole family on an adventure into the dark heart of the fairytale story… and out again!
Daydream (ages 3+)
Another chance to experience this beautiful musical installation commissioned for MIF11’s Music Boxes. Daydream drives the imagination for you to create your own story, dream or fantasy.
Long Grass (ages 15+, UK première)
A challenging and thought-provoking full-length installation performance for younger and older adults, inspired by the dreams and memories of child soldiers. Long Grass encourages us to ask questions and draw parallels between the soldiers’ experiences and our own lives. These performances will be accompanied by workshops and talks for schools.
