Rickie Lee Jones, one of popular music’s most compelling storytellers, brought a UK-exclusive show to the Bridgewater Hall for MIF11.
For this very special evening Rickie Lee Jones performed her critically-acclaimed album Pirates in its entirety, exactly 20 years since its 1981 release, plus songs from across her career.
With the release of her eponymous debut album in 1979 and the massive hit single Chuck E.’s In Love, Jones became an instant pop icon, dubbed ‘The Duchess of Coolsville’ by Time magazine. Her second album – the heartbreaking Pirates– followed, earning five star reviews across the board. Her 30-year career covers a dozen studio albums, records that see her versatile voice shift between jazz, blues, soul, country and rock with ease. Often surprising, frequently underrated, always worth watching – Rickie Lee Jones is a true rock’n’roll original.
