MIF13 TICKETS – SOME QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Posted on Friday 8 March 2013

The full programme for MIF13 is now announced and tickets are on sale via www.mif.co.uk / Quaytickets on 0844 375 2013

Tickets are selling well across the Festival and some shows are currently sold out for the entire run. These are:

Macbeth live performance

The xx in Residence

Both Macbeth and The xx have small audiences – the Festival could have sold these events many times over. The limited capacity is part of the artists' vision for the work and both shows are playing throughout the entire Festival to accommodate as many people as possible. In response to demand we have announced a big screen relay to 5000 people for Branagh's Macbeth on 20 July; tickets are still available for this event.

Some other events are sold out on specific nights with plenty of tickets available for other performances; this includes Massive Attack v Adam Curtis and Rite of Spring.

MIF supports artists to make new work – as plans grow and change we are sometimes able to release more tickets for shows which have been listed as sold out. This has been the case for several of MIF13 shows including Goldfrapp, Mogwai/Zidane and Masque of Anarchy – these shows currently have availability.  We will continue to release tickets when we can; information is posted on this website and Twitter.com/MIFestival for up to the moment ticket availability.

We have a number of tickets available for every performance at £12 for Greater Manchester residents on a lower wage, bookable by phone only on a first-come-first-served, honesty basis and via existing community networks. There are also several free events that do not require a pre-booked ticket, see www.mif.co.uk/about-us/mif-brochures for details.

The Festival's policy on reselling tickets is very clear. We aim to stop the practice of reselling and therefore any tickets bought to be resold or touted will be cancelled with immediate effect. This includes tickets sold through Ebay, Viagogo, and other ticket reselling websites, so you risk spending money on invalid tickets if you purchase tickets from these sites.

All tickets for Manchester International Festival events are sold through our box office partner Quaytickets and other external ticket agents. Tickets booked directly from venues or other agents are strictly non-refundable. If available, Quaytickets will facilitate exchanges between MIF events. Should you be unable to attend an event due to extenuating circumstances, please email ticketing@mif.co.uk; we will deal with refund/exchange requests on a case by case basis.

I have booked (and paid a postage levy) for tickets from Quaytickets. I have not yet received any tickets in the post. Why?

Manchester resident discount

Hi, when the festival line ups were first announced there was information on discounts for Mcr residents like Salford festival offer to their residents. I have purchased tickets for a few events and not had this option presented at checkout. Why the change of heart? Is it because tickets were already selling? Like I say I have bought for a few events regardless but the gesture was nice and I think it should have been followed through with.

CJ comment re: Newsletter

Hi CJ. Sorry you didn't get the email but we did send one out prior to the Macbeth on sale with details of how to book. The email had a high delivery rate and sales were obviously excellent so we do know that it was delivered to most of our subscribers.
Thanks.

Larger venues

The xx perform at larger venues. I don't think this has any impact on their 'artistic vision' for the majority of the year. The speed of minutes that it sold out suggests you have sadly not been able to respond to demand as you suggest. You then go on to strongly state your disapproval of resale, however you are contributing to this issue yourself, you are creating overly sought after tickets because of the venue choice. As cj above points out the newsletter was never sent.

I subscribed to your newsletter in order to "be the first to hear" about Macbeth tickets. This newsletter was never sent, and on checking the site again all the tickets were sold. There are many other people complaining about this on your Facebook page. To date I have not seen MIF respond to these complaints. Not being able to get tickets due to high demand is one thing, not getting them because MIF omitted to tell us they were on sale is another. Very frustrating.

Use Larger Venues!

In previous years the 2000 seat Opera House & Palace Theatre were used: Damon Albam (Palace), Rufus Wainwright (Palace), William Dafoe (Lowry), Victoria Wood (Opera House).

Not one of these artists felt their 'creative vision' had been constrained by using Manchester's largest venues.

As a publically funded arts festival, is it not in your mandate to both attract visitors to the region & produce performances for residents to enjoy and be inspired by?
